Huntington Harbor Halibut fishing

11/16/13

A blast from the past.

I was fishing Huntington Harbor in my float tube on this day.  The winds were pushing 5kts+, current was strong, and the tide was LOW!  Horrible conditions if you ask me.

In the bay a cunning angler focuses on structure for his quarry as most fish are located around structure for security and food.  On this day it was a little different for me.  I did the usual by targeting dock pilings for NADA.  Feeling desperate, I turned my sights to other fish species in the bay switching from lures to live bait.  Towards the end of my trip I made a long cast into the middle of fast running channel.  I slowly retrieved my Big Hammer swimbait back my tube using a slow retrieve and BAM!  I got a nice hit!  After several minutes of fighting this fish ,and few flops with attempting to sink a lip gripper into its mouth, I landed this beast!

It was released to fight another day.
